Request Carter County Certified Copies

Court case copies are requested through the clerk of the court that heard the case. For Carter County Circuit, Family, and District Court matters, that means starting with the Circuit Court Clerk. KCOJ says the Administrative Office of the Courts does not maintain court case records and is not the source for local case files.

1. Identify the court type, case number if known, party names, and approximate filing year.
2. Call or visit the Carter County Circuit Court Clerk and state whether a plain or certified copy is needed.
3. Ask whether the record is active, stored locally, archived, sealed, or destroyed under retention rules.
4. If the clerk identifies an older file, get the case and file locator numbers before contacting a records facility.

Carter County Record Request Fields

Carter County Clerk Office Split

Carter County has two clerk offices that serve different record systems. The Circuit Court Clerk handles trial-court case files.
